The future is here at San Gabriel County Water District! The transition to smart water meters is now underway. The new Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) system will reduce costs, increase efficiency and cut down on pollution, as the meters can be read remotely instead of requiring staff to drive by each home and business. This saves money for SGCWD and our customers in the long run.

The process of replacing older meters is expected to be complete by the end of September 2021. Water will be shut off for approximately 10 minutes at a customer’s home or business while the meter is changed. Customers do not need to be home or take any action related to the new meter installation and there is no charge for this upgrade.

AMI is an important tool for conservation, as it will provide SGCWD real-time information about water use. In the future, customers will be able to monitor water use online and receive alerts about potential water leaks.
